Beyond Caravagio's art there is very little evidence to support an in depth biographical study. What there is (principally a few police records) may or may not suggest a violent man prone to fits of jealous rage and violent behaviour. This is a sumpteous, gorgeous film. It's beautiful, moving and an interesting portrait of Caravaggio. Rather than losing oneself in the grogeous beauty of recreated paintings there are anachronistic details that jar you out of your enjoyment. Sean Bean is a hunk in this film and Tilda Swinton, as always, is a revelation.
