A live-action version of Carlo Collodi's fairy tale, The Adventures Of Pinocchio is strong technically but the blend of digital effects, animation, mattes and miniatures is eventually too much of a hodgepodge. The plot is a confusing jumble of classic fairy tale elements and jarring contemporary accents, attitudes and lowbrow humour. The real performers are Martin Landau, who is very classy as Geppetto and a sad-looking Geneviéve Bujold, but the syrupy child-star Jonathan Taylor Thomas makes you long to toss another puppet on the fire. However, the music is enjoyable, especially the songs by Stevie Wonder, and The Adventures Of Pinocchio should maintain the interest of youngsters age eight and under. --Rochelle O'Gorman, Amazon.com

Although mainly seen as a puppet in animatronic form, former Home Improvement star Jonathan Taylor Thomas delivers a stunning performance as the marionette who dreamed of being real. Jonathan's performance is far from being wooden.

What makes this film even more enjoyable is the attention to detail - even the puppet looks like Jonathan.

Whether you're eight or eighty, you'll love this live action interpretation of the classic story.
