Once upon a time before visual entertainment was classified into sitcom, action, soap, horror and scifi there was drama. Survivors takes a simple premise and then explores it with a studied seriousness. For todays viewers the lack of incidental music may come as something of a shock. If at times the studio sequences resemble 'radio with pictures' much of the generous location work is the reverse, lengthy cinematography with only wild track accompaniment. Classic stuff !, They don't make TV like this anymore. In these two opening episodes of this mid seventies series , the remaining characters lives are changed forever. It was joy this re-discover this series after so many years, having only been allowed stay up late to see a few episodes ( in my youth). The scripts are so well written (some by Terry Nation of Dr Who fame), with ordinary / real characters struggling against situations that would arise from any similar disaster.
