Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Classic rural comedy drama
At the time of writing this, sadly, this classic and popular comedy drama from the 80's is unavailable on DVD. The dramatisation closely follows Tom Sharpe's excellent book. Ignore the fact that local authority planning doesn't work according to he story, as the plot thickens with every scene, and it's so very very amusing. David Suchet excels as Blott, Geraldine James glows as Lady Maud and George Cole makes an adequate Sir Giles and it's amusing to see Julia McKenzie in a catsuit.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of the best comedy mini-series
Sir Giles Lynchwood, Conservative MP, schemes to have a motorway extend over his houses. His wife with the help of Blott fortifies the gatehouse to repel the construction crew. It is much more complex with subplots. You have to see to believe and them you may not.
Many videos do not live up to the expectations of the book. This one may even surpass the book. All of the characters fit and all the irony hits you in the face. This was my first encounter with David Suchet (Blott). And you will recognize ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Brilliant and unforgettable!
I haven't actually bought the video yet, but I saw Blott in 1985 and watched the entire series again in 1986 and 1993 when the BBC re-ran it. David Suchet was brilliant as Blott - you could see how he later gained the role of "Poirot" - and Geraldine James a superb Lady Maud. George Cole was spot-on as the ultra-slimy Sir Giles, as was the late Simon Cadell in the part of complete nincompoop Mr Dundridge.

And of course, Julia McKenzie. Mrs Forthby, and all her associated characters, which included ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Sharpe justice done. The book brought to life.
The actors & actressess bring their characters alive. The videos successfully transfer the storey from book to screen.George Cole is perfectly cast as the slimy Sir Giles. David Suchet is Blott to a "T", gradually bringing him to the fore while generally stealing the scenes he appears in. Geraldine James is both imposing and impressive as the formidible Lady Maud, who causes the paint to curl every time she speaks. The rest of the cast helps to bring the story off the pages and all contribute to successfully ... Read More
