ASAOV is up there with A Quiet Belief In Angels. RJE's words are a pleasure to read, and the fact that his subject matter in a crime novel is much more heavyweight than most only adds to the power of its impact. RJE's great ability is to be able to write such wonderful sentences that I would read them if there was no sense to what they were saying. The fact is it's a captivating story, and one that might just change the way you view the world.

Quite why R J Ellory had to write 22 novels and amass 500 rejection letters before he could find a publisher, is quite, quite beyond me. This is a cracking good novel.

When I started "A Simple Act of Violence" I was trying to follow the advice of another reviewer of Ellory's novels on this site, don't rush it, but savour the writing. I can see what he meant.
