Loretta Chase's novels seem to be rather variable but always interesting. I loved "Lord Of Scoundrels" which has a dreadful cover but is a great story; "Captives Of The Night" was a very different read (although with some characters in common with "Lord Of Scoundrels"), with far more mystique and secrecy in the plot and characters, but it was still very good. At last, a book that kept me up until the wee small hours!! I have read all Loretta Chase's books that I can lay my hands on and this one is up there with the best. I don't often laugh out loud at romance books, but this one is on a par with Lord of Scoundrels for odd spots of hilarity. Varian and Esme are obviously made for one another, just takes them a little while to realise it.
